The Genomics and Bioinformatics platform is equipped with two high performance sequencing systems which are complementary to each other: 454 GS FLX+ Roche and Illumina HiSeq 1500. The specialized support staff not only conducts internal research projects at INDEAR and collaboration work, but also provides sequencing services to various universities and national / international research centers.
From the sequencing of complex plant genomes, the processing of thousands of metagenomic environmental samples (i.e. soilgene.net), the significant work in bacterial and viral genomes, to the addressing of transcriptomic studies and health-related projects, the Genomics team is constantly busy delivering valuable contributions in the form of massive data of high quality DNA sequences.
The sequencing activities are supported by the Bioinformatics department and its highly trained team in the scientific and technical arena, with deep expertise in Biology, Computing and Stats. Data are processed by a sophisticated system including automated pipelines for sequence quality control, assembly, annotation, and manual support tools for finishing and annotation.
